Does the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Disorders (DSM) scare you?

Well, you are not alone. In this stage two, we are going to demystify the DSM! This is the first aim of Stage Two: “Demystifying the DSM and Your World of Service.”
We will begin with Step Four: “Demystifying the DSM.” Here, we will cover the history of the DSM; review the multiaxial classifications system, a great foundational way to approach the information and the way I was taught, which will then lead us to the way the material is being viewed today. This includes encouragement for us all, to look at challenges from one person to another, on a scale of dimensionality, and additionally related factors, as opposed to absolutes. Step Four includes one video, totaling 4 hours and 55 minutes, 70 pages of downloadable Workbook materials presented in videos, and additionally related written material in the dedicated portal, with the ability to take and print notes.
Step Five of Stage Two: “All About Services,” provides a thorough discussion about assessment areas, and the use of “Assessment as a Change Agent.” It includes assessment areas to consider; how to view the experiences and possible related impacts on the whole person, in service provision; a review of concepts from Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change, in approaching change, and minimizing conflict and lastly, service documentation. Here we will cover how to write progress notes, service plans, psycho-socials, and review tips to meet documentation requirements. A case example is presented, including flow bubble assessment areas, (one without housing service needs, the other with housing service needs) and service grids, which visually display potential areas of overlap, integration, and influence. Step Five includes five videos totaling 20 hours and 17 minutes, 129 page of downloadable Workbook materials presented in videos, (and 8 additional pages), with the ability to take notes and print them.
Step Six of Stage Two: “Making the Most of Resources,” covers step by step instruction on making the most of internal and external resources and supports, how to get out of the “silo” – feeling isolated, and at the same time, learn where you stand and what you can do in your agency from a managerial point of view, even if you are a manager. Highlights include skill development to assist in problem solving, resolution, and collaboration for more support for you, your teams, and the persons you serve. Step six has one video totaling 2 hours and 4 minutes, 42 pages of downloadable Workbook materials presented in videos, with the ability to take notes and print them.
This section, Stage Two, includes a total of 27 hours and 17 minutes of video instruction, and 241 pages of digital Workbook materials. Additional written material has been included in the portal, up to Step Four. Bibliography and reference material from Stage One through Stage Two are available here via download for future use, some of which have also been included in your downloadable Workbook as active links. You may take and print notes within the dedicated portal, 3 consults are included, and Certificates are available at the completion of each Stage.
